High School: District 99 Education Foundation Hosts Pizza Paddle Battle to Help Raise Dough
Who is the Big Cheese of Downers Grove Pizza Places? Stop by Downers Grove South High School, 1436 Norfolk, on Thursday, January 16 from 5:30 to 7(ish) pm to taste and vote for your choice from among a variety of local pizza purveyors.
Tickets are $10 in advance (email firstname.lastname@example.org to purchase) or $12 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the District 99 Education Foundation. Tasting will end at 7:15 pm; the winner of the “Best Pizza in District 99” will be announced at 7:30 pm.
Participating restaurants include:
- John & Eddie’s
- Papa’s Pizza Place
If you don’t see your favorite Downers Grove-area pizza place listed here, give them a call and encourage them to participate. They were all invited. But they have to let the Education Foundation know by TODAY. Tell them to email email@example.com.
Middle School: Music and… More Pizza?
O’Neill’s Jazz Band and Concert Band will perform tomorrow night at 7pm, and on January 21, the Choir Festival will kick off at 3:30 pm while the Chamber Strings (orchestra) will perform with area fourth graders (beginning orchestra students) at 7pm.
Also, O’Neill is having a fundraising night at Lou Malnati’s TOMORROW night (they won’t be at the District 99 event, so maybe you can taste test them for comparison? You’ll have a day to recover in between.)
O’Neill PTA will earn 20 percent of all sales from that evening, both carry out and delivery. Please mention this fundraising event when ordering, and print out the flyer (this one in case you didn’t click the link before) and hand it to the cashier or delivery person, because O’Neill won’t get credit without it.
Grade School: El Sierra Is Collecting Pop Tabs; DGCC Will Sing at O’Neill on Wednesday
Mrs. Claver’s Third Grade is collecting pop tabs for The Ronald McDonald House near Loyola. This organization, located near Loyola University Medical Center, provides a “home away from home” for families of children receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals. The RMH near Loyola serves as a temporary residence where family members can sleep in their own rooms, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations. Each year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raises more than $30,000 from this program.
Here is how the El Sierra collection will work:
- Each classroom has a collection box
- The Pop Tabs will be collected and counted on a monthly basis.
- The classroom with the most Pop Tabs for the month will be announced.
And, DGCC will be singing at O’Neill tomorrow night at 7 pm. As those of us who have experienced DGCC concerts in the past can tell you, come early if you want to get a seat. It fills up quickly.
Also, everyone remember Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, so there is no school.
